Dear Student

Happy New Year!

A new semester has begun! Given the current weak employment climate which may last a few years, it is imperative that you plan and prepare early for your careers. Equip yourself with the necessary skills desired by employers and seize both local and overseas internship opportunities. Whether you are a first year or graduating student, the NUS Career Centre is here to help you with your career needs.

We have planned a series of career activities for this semester.

· Career Workshops – Start your career preparations early in the semester while you are still finalizing your timetable! With workshops in Resume Writing, Interview Skills, Networking Skills, Hands-on Assessment Centres and many more, click workshops for the schedule of workshops and register early at the NUS Career Centre to avoid disappointment. (1st workshop starts on 13 Jan, Tues!!)

· Career Fridays – Every alternate Fridays, 4-5pm! We have invited several industry experts to come and share their stories with you. What is like working in Consulting? What is a Global Career? Come and listen to our Consulting, Investment Banking practitioners, Entrepreneurs etc and network with the experts! Personal Q&A sessions are available on a first come first served basis! Click Career Fridays to find out the Topics and Schedule.

· NUS eJob Centre – With more than 100 full-time and part-time jobs on this online job portal, access NUS eJobCentre to apply for the latest job postings.

· Internships – Experience a real work environment in the coming vacation in May – Jul 08. Click internship from Feb 09 onwards to know what internship opportunities are available to you.

· Recruitment Talks – A series of talks are currently being planned for the new semester. Click recruitment talks regularly to find out which employer is coming and register online for these talks.

· Career Advising – If you are still worried about your career prospects despite attending all the workshops and events, have a quick consultation with the Career Advisors to clear your concerns. Call 6516 1385 or email careers@nus.edu.sg to make an appointment.

· VAULT – Assess VAULT, an online career library to find out more about the various industries, the different type of jobs, your potential employers and much more. Research well and make informed decisions for your career planning.

· NUS Career Fair 09 – Make a date with us on 12 & 13 Feb 09. Over 70 employers from the public service, engineering, consulting, construction and many other industries will be at MPSH 1& 2 to recruit you. Do not miss out on this opportunity to network and make an impression with them. Industry and career employability talks will be held concurrently.

While 2009 and beyond may be tough years ahead, use the time wisely and start planning for your careers. Explore and learn new skills and knowledge, seek local and international projects and internships, network with the industry players etc. These exposure and opportunities will prepare you well in time for your graduation.

All the best to you in this coming year..

Yours sincerely
